Yellow Gorse
‘Yellow’ doesn’t really capture it
The word’s too soft, too pale
For the wild bright blaze of the springtime gorse
Lighting up the landscape on a dull grey day
Stoppng me still with the scent of sweet almonds
Bursting with beauty past the spindles and prickles
Hurting my eyes with the glare of pure brilliance
Framing each viewpoint
Marking each waypoint with fire burning beacons, and
Setting the hillside ablaze.

The old Gaelic word for gorse is ‘teine’. ‘Teine’ also means fire, or beacon.
